MORNING HACKS FOR A SIMPLER LIFE.


Whether you are a morning person or not, getting out of bed in the morning is a struggle for most. Even more so for me in this cooler weather - it's currently winter in Australia. All I want to do is stay in bed, snuggled up in my warm blankets. One you have managed the herculean task of getting the motivation to get out of bed, there is usually a multitude of things to do to get your morning going.

Making the most of the short time you have in the morning and establishing a well defined morning routine is the best way to ensure that you're mornings run more smoothly, thus ensuring a stress free start to your day. Here are a few helpful hacks to help get your morning started the right way.

MEAL PREP. 

Prepping yours and your kids (if you have them) lunches the night before is a great way to save time in the morning. Having everyone's lunches packed and ready to go means you just have to grab them and go on your way out the door and it frees up time in the morning for other things. I usually prep a full weeks worth of meals and snacks at the beginning of the week so I don't have to worry about cooking at all. It's a great time saver and one less thing to worry about when you're getting started in the morning.

BRAIN DUMP.

Does your brain do that extremely annoying thing where you finally get into bed at the end of a long day and all you want to do is go to sleep and you suddenly can't switch of your brain? You're thinking about things you need to remember later or random thoughts you don't want to forget? It happens to me all the time. A great way to help with this is to keep a note pad and pen beside your bed so when those pesky, poorly timed thoughts come knocking, you can do a brain dump. Write it all down so you can look at it in the morning and get yourself a good nights sleep. Finally.

PRE-PACK YOUR BAGS.

Make it a habit to pack your work bags the night before and have them ready to go by the door. This is a habit I got into when I was going to the gym every day after work. As soon as I got back from the gym in the afternoon, I would take out my dirty clothes, replace them with clean clothes, socks etc and put the bag by the door so I can grab it on my way out in the morning. It's such a time saver and ensure that you don't forget anything when rushing out the door in the morning.

'ME' TIME.

Setting your alarm a few minutes earlier then when you need to get up in the morning is a great way to get a little 'me' time first thing in the morning. Instead of rolling out of bed as soon as your alarm goes off, just wait a few minutes. Sit up, stretch, do a little meditation or do a quick few minutes of yoga. Take a minute to breathe and just be, before getting up to start your day.


TO-DO LIST.

Having a morning to-do list is a great way to not just get kids moving in the morning, but to get yourself going and on task. Having a clearly defined set of tasks to do before you start your day makes it easier to get ready faster and also eliminates the chance that you'll be dawdling in the morning or performing nonessential tasks. My morning to-do list is as follows:
- Feed cats.
- Open blinds.
- Drink water.
- Make bed.
- Wash face.
- Get dressed.
- Apply sunscreen.
- Breakfast. 
- Brush Teeth.
- Clean litter box.
- Grab bag, lunch and water bottle.

UNPLUG. 

Try avoiding looking at social media or the news in the morning. Instead of picking up your phone or switching on the TV, get straight into your morning tasks instead. Not only do these things tend to distract, but watching the news first thing in the morning can bring down your mood or get your mind focused on the wrong things. Taking those first moments of the day to do something relaxing helps to set a calm, positive tone for your day.

EAT BREAKFAST. 

I know it seems like a very obvious thing to do in the morning but it's surprising how many people skip eating breakfast. A lot of people skip it because they just don't have the time but incorporating these simple hacks into your morning will help ensure you have the time and if time is still an issue - make time for it.
Eating a nutritious breakfasts helps set the done for your day. It promotes weigh maintenance and loss by helping maintain blood glucose levels and your metabolism. It's not just necessary for your body but your brain as well. Eating a healthy, nutritious breakfast helps improve your concentration and productivity throughout your day which is essential for a successful and fruitful work day.
